Our family gets the opportunity to visit Memphis pretty often. One of the most noticeable sights on the Memphis skyline is absolutely the Bass Pro Shop Pyramid. If you ever venture from Arkansas into Memphis, it will be right in your sights as you cross the Mississippi River. It is a beautiful sight to see.

If you are looking for a good spot to camp near Memphis, check out the Wall Doxey State Park in Holly Springs, Mississippi.

This Bass Pro Shop is like no other!  The cypress swamp has so many fish AND ducks and 600,000 gallons of water. Sometimes you can even go in and see boats (for sale) floating around on the water. Which just seems so wild and out of place inside a building. But thats not the only crazy thing you might find.

The arcade area at Bass Pro shop is a fun spot for kids.

The History

The pyramid wasn’t always home to the outdoor store. It was built in 1991 and was an event venue for awhile. It hosted concerts for Mary J. Blidge, and the Rolling Stones. Mike Tyson had a boxing even here. And there was a basketball team that once called this icon home. The acoustics of the bullding weren’t really great for these types of events. in 2002-2006 it was home to a church.

In 2015, the pyramid was finished with some serious renovations and the sporting goods store and lodge were open for business.

If you know your world history you may know that Memphis, Tennessee is not the only Memphis… There is also a Memphis in Egypt located on the Nile River. It seems fitting that the Memphis in Tennessee located on the Mississippi River would also have it’s own pyramid.

The Cypress Lodge Inside the Pyramid

The Cypress Lodge located inside the pyramid has 100 hotel rooms. I checked the listing  and found beautiful photos. The reviews are incredible. And the photos look luxurious… I don’t live too far away, but these pics make me want to book a trip.

They offer a free shuttle to get to Beale street which sounds like a great way to get around and enjoy the sites while leaving your vehicle in the private parking area.

You can ride the elevator up for  $10 a person. At the top is a glass observation deck. The hours of operation are different from the store. They are

The Wahlburgers Wild is ANOTHER restaurant in the pyramid that serves “wild” meats such as venison chili and Bison Burgers.

Ducks Unlimited

Ducks Unlimited has a very cool area on the second floor that shows their long history of trying to protect the wetlands and therefore the waterfowl. Definitely worth checking out.

Things to know

Bass Pro Shop is a dog friendly store. We have been able to see so many well-behaved 4-legged family members in the store.

Every area we have visited has been stroller/wheelchair friendly.

Memphis is pretty well-known for the massive amount of car break-ins. I usually see security patrolling the lots and we have gotten lucky so far.  But I just wanted you to be aware.

Bass pro shops is visited by SO many RVs. There is a massive parking lot and so much parking. Getting in and out shouldn’t be an issue during less busy times.  It is not at all an area I would ever want to boondock in. But a spot to pull over, make lunch and maybe get a nap during the day I would totally do.

Join their other two MILLLLLION visitors that come and take it all in every year.
