Step Back in Time: Exploring Bedrock City, Arizona
If you’ve ever dreamed of visiting the Stone Age—at least, the Fred and Wilma version of it—then Bedrock City in Arizona is a must-see roadside attraction. This quirky, colorful slice of Americana brings The Flintstones to life in a way that’s both nostalgic and a little surreal. Whether you’re a fan of retro pop culture, vintage roadside attractions, or just looking for something wildly offbeat, Bedrock City is worth the stop.
When I came sliding down the dinosaur tail, I was sure Wilma was just about to pop out of one of those houses. I absolutely felt like a kid again! I was lucky I got to bring my very own Pebbles and BamBam!

What Is Bedrock City?
I grew up watching a little Flintstones! The day we drove past this gem going to the Grand Canyon I knew we had to make a stop on our way back by. We have found some pretty cool road-side attractions over the years! This one is by far a favorite. My kids don’t remember much about the Grand Canyon, but we will never forget the dinosaur slide!

Inside the “kitchen” of one of the houses.
Bedrock City is a Flintstones-themed amusement park and campground located in Valle, Arizona, just off Highway 64 near the gateway to the Grand Canyon. Opened in 1972, this park pays homage to the classic 1960s Hanna-Barbera cartoon, The Flintstones. The show featured the stone-age family navigating ‘modern’ suburban life—with dinosaurs as appliances and cars powered by foot.

The park features life-sized cartoon buildings, dinosaur statues, and even cutouts of Fred, Wilma, Barney, and Betty, all styled with that unmistakable Flintstones flair. It’s a blend of childhood whimsy, retro Americana, and slightly eerie roadside charm.
What Can You Do There?
While the original park closed some years ago, parts of it have been revived and incorporated into a new attraction called Raptor Ranch, which combines wildlife education and bird-of-prey shows with a tribute to Bedrock City.

If you visit, here’s what you might find:
•🦕The Original Bedrock City Structures: Snap photos with Flintstone-style buildings, cars, and statues. It’s a photographer’s dream for quirky content.
•🏕️Camping & RV Parking: Stay overnight in the campground or RV park and experience the desert night sky like a modern-day caveman (or woman). There are 36 RV sites, tent sites and glamping tents for rent. Check out their amazing sites on VRBO!
•🦅Raptor Ranch: Learn about birds of prey through live flight demonstrations—an unexpected but fascinating addition to the Bedrock setting.
•🛍️Gift Shop: Stock up on retro souvenirs and unique gifts that feel like they came from another era.
Why You Have to Visit
Let’s be real—Bedrock City isn’t a flashy modern theme park. It’s a little faded, a bit campy, and absolutely full of character. It’s a snapshot of mid-20th-century roadside America, where families made pit stops at attractions built more for charm than profit.
And that’s exactly what makes it special.
Whether you’re reliving childhood memories or introducing your kids to The Flintstones for the first time, there’s a nostalgic joy in walking through a cartoon version of the Stone Age. Plus, its proximity to the Grand Canyon makes it a fun and quick detour on your Arizona road trip.

Final Thoughts
In a world filled with polished theme parks and Instagram-perfect travel spots, Bedrock City offers something refreshingly different. It’s strange, a little scruffy, and wonderfully weird—but that’s the goal.
So the next time you’re headed toward the Grand Canyon, make a pit stop in Bedrock. After all, you don’t get many chances to say “Yabba Dabba Doo!” in real life.
