Prior to our Arrival

Last year we were returning home from a summer in California. We were on our hard run east. It was the end of an epic summer making amazing memories with friends and family. Going east is usually a tough one for us. We definitely put some adventure and fun into all our road trips. But we are usually tired and kind of excited to get home. The miles on the GPS tick away at a snails pace and for some reason heading east is when our camper decides to give us some new and interesting challenge.  (Our 2024 challenge was a blown tire and a second just barely hanging on while driving through a very remote section of the Loneliest Highway.)  Our beginnings of RV living is always a fun post to look back on!

We woke up that morning in Utah. It was still dark out, but we had a decent travel day ahead. One of our kids was struggling with some serious ear pain. Our travel day was less than 300 miles, but on some secondary roads. Great scenery on our route made up for the slower travel times. We just have to pay close attention to the gas gauge and plan accordingly.

On our drive, between Page Arizona and Durango, CO.

Prior to our arrival we had driven in four states and we were a bit tired and ready to kick our feet up. We had scheduled a zero day in Durango, and boy were we ready! We had gotten around 1,000 miles behind us in just a few days. A day of not driving and not having to sit in the truck half the day was just what was needed! We had planned to do some sight seeing in the area while in this gorgeous place.

Prior to coming into the RV park my husband dropped off me and the kiddo that was under the weather. With all of the elevation changes we had been driving through, an ear infection was really quite painful and we had plenty of time to get it seen about. My husband and our other kid went to the park to check in and drop the trailer before coming back to get us.

We were lucky. The urgent care team was not only kind, but they worked fast. They called in the prescriptions to a local grocery store with a pharmacy and we were able to walk to it.  It was a perfect spot to pick up extra supplies for the camper and get our meds while we waited for my husband to pick us up.

The Resort is such a beautiful oasis!

Thankfully the RV Resort is only 7 miles from downtown Durango (which I could absolutely spend more time in). Located just off US Highway 160 it is very convenient to weary travelers.

When we stayed here in 2024 the name was Oasis RV. When I made the reservations, somehow I had ended up making them for the wrong park. I was able to cancel and make them at the correct park. Both parks have apparently experienced this oopsie!  When I began writing this post I was seeing more and more of it being called Durango RV Resort. I can easily see why they changed the name.

The office, definitely has the look that it was once a KOA. They have a great store and some Hunt Brother’s Pizza.

Accommodations & Layout

• RV Sites: Full-hookup (water, sewer, 20/30/50 amp electricity), extra-long pull-throughs, and some back in options. There were some insanely huge rigs near us… Their site says they can accommodate them up to 80Ft!!!  Thats a lot to pull down the road!! The sites are close together, but it was still somehow pretty quiet there. It didn’t feel like a KOA with rigs constantly in and out all day long.

Cabins & Tent Sites: You can get a rustic cabin, or relax in a deluxe with a hot tub!

The resort has 96 RV spaces, 27 cabins, and 11 tent sites!

The swimming pool looks so inviting. Only open Memorial Day-Labor Day

Amenities & Activities

We had made our travel arrangements a month in advance, and we got lucky this was where we had planned an off day. A day with time to explore the area and not have to sit in the car for 5ish hours.

• Resort-style comforts: Heated seasonal pool, (only open between Memorial Day to Labor Day) mini-golf, pickleball court, and playgrounds. The area around their creek was beautiful to just sit near and enjoy!

• Convenience features: Free Wi-Fi, bathhouse/restrooms, (we usually use our own camper shower, but theirs were so clean and well set up that we used their bathhouse) laundry, dump station, and a camp store that has Hunt Brother’s Pizza!!

• Pet-friendly perks: Multiple off-leash dog run areas. HUGE perk for us since we were traveling with a very high energy dog.

Our Jazz loved the fenced in dog park!

Why We Loved It

We had given ourselves a day off to explore the area and we didn’t even leave the RV resort. We did come in just after the pool had closed for the year, so the kids were disappointed with that. BUT they had a blast doing all the other things.

We took our dog to the dog park multiple times and it was clean.

We were able to get golf balls and clubs and play mini golf on their course. The course is small and is starting to show some wear, but if users continue to use it gently it will still be fun for many more families.

The pickle ball court with some shade!!

We were also able to do a family game of pickleball. We were fortunate that we hit the courts when there was some shade out there. Our courts at home have zero shade, so this was very nice.

There is a playground.

The common areas were all very clean and well kept. The laundry room, bath house and showers were clean.

The bathrooms were clean!

Despite being right on the heavily trafficked road there was zero road noise where we were.

We do a lot of traveling across the US and without a doubt we would stay here again in the future. It was a perfect Oasis and plenty close  enough to town.
