Don’t forget to check out Cadillac Ranch while you are in Amarillo!
Also, don’t forget your spray paint and head over to Cadillac Ranch and leave your mark!
Back in 2022, our family was headed west. We fell in love with California and we were going there to stay with our west coast family for the summer. We left Devil’s Den State Park in Arkansas that morning and drove all day with our mouths watering while we talked about a big Texas-sized steak.
Located just off I-40, you can’t miss the giant cowboy sign, you will find this tourist attraction very easily. People come there for a reason! Last I checked there are over 30K 4.5 star reviews! That’s a lot of happy customers!!
The 72 Ounce Steak Big Texan Challenge
You want a free steak dinner? You can get one!
The steak eating challenge does have rules, you pay the $72. up front. If you win, you get a refund. You have to eat more than just the giant 72 ounce steak in less than one hour, you also have to eat a roll with butter, baked potato, shrimp cocktail, and a salad!!! You have to sit on a stage in front of everyone and it is live-streamed! If you get sick and lose your lunch, its over… when we were there a guy did get sick and lose.We were pretty excited when he first started. When we saw him hugging his black trash can and filling it with his stomach contents we were glad for the space between us.

The Big Texan has it’s own hotel next door, and you can see the iconic cowboy sign on the side of I-40! You can check out those rooms here!
The Food
We had decided not to eat much prior to coming, we had driven several hours from Arkansas. (Check out some of our favorite items for the kids while traveling!) And parked the camper over at the Big Texan RV park, so we were tired and HANGRY!! But no way were we going to fill our tummies with PB&J when we could have a juicy steak! My daughter ordered from the kids menu and was thrilled when her food came out and her plate was in a straw cowboy hat. ((She absolutely got her money’s worth out of that hat!)) We had steaks, loaded baked potatoes and I loved the jalapeño that also came out.

While we waited for our food we enjoyed the live music that was being played. The musicians walked around to the different tables and even took requests!!

So many super cute photo ops around the store while you wait!
The Store
There was quite a wait when we arrived. We were there at a busy time, so it’s understandable.
You can make same-day reservations by calling 806-372-6000 ext 410. I didn’t know that at the time!
We walked around the store while we waited and found plenty to keep us occupied! Of course I was not thrilled by the snakes they have in there, even if they are behind glass….. no thank you!!

Even if you aren’t after steak, its a very cool restaurant to eat in. The staff was friendly and fun, and the atmosphere was family friendly.
We stayed right down the street at the RV Park and were very pleased with it. We did not explore many amenities as we set our camper up, went for paint for our morning trip to Cadillac Ranch, and took our hungry selves to the Steakhouse! The next morning after our trip to paint some old cars we headed Northwest and set up in Colorado Springs, CO at the Lone Duck Campground.
